The event was the annual meeting of the Waltham Forest Trades Council, the local version of the TUC. The venue was Waltham Forest Council Chamber, a place I got to know very well. The picture shows Eric Deakins, the Walthamstow MP, speaking. I can't remember him looking so young. The main speaker was the Leyton MP Patrick Gordon-Walker, who had a considerable national reputation, but is not in this photo. I think the photo was probably taken by Phil Lovett, a kindly soul who probably gave me a copy. I doubt if it was my friend Keith Stretten. It's not good enough. The photo shows (l-r) Cllr Eileen Gordon, deputy mayor Keith Gordon, conference president Edith Pearson (who I think was a notable member of the Oveltinies, if you know, you know) and Jim Jones.
