Extra patrols have been ordered to protect Councillor Neil Gerrard, leader of Waltham Forest Council. Residents blame him for a 62 per cent rates rise.

The attack on his home in Walthamstow, East London, followed a string of threats and abusive phone calls. He was out when the bomb exploded against his front door.
