Rate challenge number three

Hammersmith and Fulham LBC has joined Ealing and Waltham Forest LBCs in facing a challenge from ratepayers over its rates increase.

The newly formed West London Ratepayers Action Group is hoping to outlaw the Labour controlled council's 49.6% rates increase.

However, their hearing was adjourned in the high court this week pending the outcome of similar challenges by ratepayers in Waltham Forest and Patricia Dunstan in Ealing.

Mrs Dunstan, who is challenging Ealing's 65% rise, has lodged an appeal against a decision last week dismissing her request for judicial review.

The Waltham Forest Ratepayers Action Group has been granted leave for judicial review against a 62% rate rise and the hearing will go to the high court on 13 July.
