RATEPAYERS fighting a 62 per cent. rate rise by a Labour council were last night considering an appeal after losing a High Court case,
After being ordered to pay costs, estimated at £100,000, they said they might spend another £20,000 to contest the decision.
Two judges rejected a complaint by the 20,000-strong Waltham Forest Ratepayers Action Group in East London that the rate rise was 'irrational, unreasonable and illegal'.
The judges also rejected the suggestion that the ruling Labour group's consultation with local people and firms had been a 'charade'.
Ratepayers' spokesman Paul Crozier said: 'They have won the legal battle, but we still have a moral responsibility to continue if we can.'
