New Year honours for dedicated service

by Ruby Ali

THREE unsung heroes serving the community for countless years have received rewards for their efforts in the New Year Honours List.

They are Stanley Gimson, who is to receive an MBE (Member of the British Empire), and Pamela Everton and Steven Jacobs who have been awarded OBEs (Order of the British Empire).

An OBE has also been awarded to Steven Jacobs, 50, of The Drive, Chingford.

Mr Jacobs, who is chief executive of Stratford Development Partnership, receives the award for services to regeneration in east London.

The company manages and delivers regeneration programmes on behalf of local and health authorities and organisations from the private and public sectors.

Mr Jacobs is currently working with Waltham Forest Council to help regenerate transport facilities in the area.

He said: "I am very surprised and shocked at this award but I think the main point is that it is a reflection of everyone who has worked for regeneration in the area, not just an individual."
