The oldest pub in Australia

The first place Frank took us to in Sydney was, probably the oldest pub in Australia, dating back 150 years and more. As you can see the band has probably been playing there since it opened! This was very like a nice English pub with character. There were precious few of this type in Australia, though we didn't find any of the beer halls of legend either. What we did find was that pubs were few and far between and the ones that we did go into were mostly noisy, unpleasant places. Of course, in Perth or Adelaide the lavatories were always spotless. They even had flushing urinals in the gents! In Sydney the Australians were more laid back about hygiene and the loos were more like English pub loos, though not quite as bad.
