In 2003 Katy and I went to the Gambia. The Gambia offered a cheap holiday (about half the price of the things you buy, though you have to negotiate the price of pretty well everything, so it's up to your bargaining skills). It's also on the same time zone as London (give or take BST), so no jet lag from England. The country is bursting with colour and vitality. It's the sort of place where if you plant a staff it starts growing. The roads are generally in a very bad state and we could see why since we went in the wet season.
