In Britain the spooks (MI6, SIS, GCHQ, call it what you like) have been giving the press a hard time. They have been using terror laws for exactly what those laws were designed to do, stifle dissent not prevent terrorism.
The spooks maintain their secrecy is vital for national security but in reality it is there to mask their incompetence. For example I have a recruiting pack created by GCHQ boasting about its role in detecting the weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, complete phantoms which never existed. |
