The wrong Corbyn | |
A slip of the tongue led the reporter on Radio 4's Today programme this morning to suggest that my old friend Piers Corbyn (who I briefly knew in the late 1980s) was likely to be elected leader of the Labour Party.
Piers, of course, is not standing: it's his brother Jeremy who is grasping that particular nettle. Piers was/ is a very interesting man, a lecturer in climatology who was a global warming sceptic long before most people had even heard of global warming. His party trick was to beat the bookmakers on complex bets about future weather trends. He was always right and made a lot of money out of it (as well as becoming a minor media celebrity). | |
