A strange thing happened to me tonight. A barefoot boy of about ten followed me home and tried to get inside when I opened the door. When I shut him out I could hear a moaning sound from outside. This was at about 10 pm when no boy should be on the streets on his own. I can hear someone crying outside. I think it is him. Now if I was a good person I would contact social services and let them know. But I am not a good person, so I am hiding. In any case I have no idea how to contact social services at 10pm on a Friday night.
Rav Jassal Is he still outside

Jonathan Brind Don't know but there's no screaming Rav. The police said several other people had called.

Rav Jassal Call 03000 41 41 41, its medway out of hours social services.

Jonathan Brind He's not here any more Rav and the police said they were on the way to deal with the incident, but thank you so much for trying to help me

Rav Jassal No problem, im glad you didn't let him in your hse, otherwise, ppl would had made all sort of rumours. Even if your heart, was thinking to help this poor lad. Hope he's ok. You done great.

Jonathan Brind Yes it did occur to me that the decent thing to do would have been to let him in and then call social services to pick him up. But I chickened out because I thought the risk was too great.

Cllr Omolola Oyewusi You did the right thing, it can even be a set up !!! You hear all sorts this days . If it's a genuine case I pray he finds the right help.

Edited Dawn O'Connor terrible when a single man is wary of helping a young lad because the consequences could be misconstrued

Sian Allen it's sad that nowdays men cannot help a child without fear of allegations even as a middle age childless woman I maybe accused of child snatching. Would it be worth phoning the police or even the non emergency ambulance they may get social sevices ?

Edited Jonathan Brind Thanks Sian. I've done that.

Laura Brind what was the outcome?

Jonathan Brind Don't know. The screaming stopped. The police did not ring back, which I think they would have done if they had failed to find the boy.

Dawn O'Connor yes not just a single man of course but anyone

Rav Jassal Its so hard who to trust in this day and age. You want to do the right thing, but is your right thing, be viewed as correct to others, or will they just accuse you of wrong doing.

Will Vine Hi Jo, I've arrived ,as ever, just beyond the nick of time. If I had words of practical advice or comfort you'd be welcome to them but well.....er.....try to get some sleep......you've a busy day tomorrow....I expect.

Vince Maple Only just seen this, calling police is the right action.

John Austen Call the police. They will know who to contact.

John Anderson When a boat full of refugees arrive at your feet, there is no answer. You do your best, what you are comfortable with, there is no definitive answer. Not the same I know, but whatever you did, you (or really I) will never think it was enough.

Robert Maggio I'm even more single thsn you and no,one comes in, except Oh!! the martial arts girl her eyes were stupid with gratitude what it had done for her, and after listening and looking at her setup I said come in. haven't done the free class, throat cartilage impact concerns it doesn't heal sameway.

Sam Rapp God, I would stay with the child and call the police I did that when a disabled boy was lost I stayed with him and was going to take him to police station if no one came in the end was a good outcome the social services all hv out of hours numbers but … See more

Maal Dauwa Very likely a setup

Liza Fletcher Jonathan Brind - what happened in the end?

Jonathan Brind Don't know. The noises stopped. The police did not ring back (and I think they would have done if they had failed to find him) so I guessed the situation was resolved somehow.

Liza Fletcher Jonathan Brind What a nightmare. Poor child.

Magda Lauer maybe he just needed food???
