Using litigation to bring spooks to heel

Many people think hackers are spotty teenagers working from their bedrooms, or mentally disturbed young men living with their mums.

They aren't, or most of them are not. Most work for governments, particularly the American government. Because they are part of the spook community it is impossible to know how much is being spent on such activities, or even who it is who controls what they are doing.

In an article about how hackers are tracked down by the US and then face retribution in the shape of court action, the Economist (September 15-21, 2018) says 'America's increasingly litigious response to cyber attacks throws up another concern: will its own legion of government hackers face retribution in kind?'.

As they used to say on Rowan & Martin's Laugh In 'you bet your sweet bippy'.
