Tilting at windmills
I'm often vilified as a climate change denier, though I have never been one. I'm passionate about science and it is clear that global temperatures are now about a degree centigrade higher than they were at the beginning of the industrial revolution. At least I think it is clear. What I really object to is the 'we must do something' brigade; the panickers or those who seek to make others panic. One degree is a lot. we were promised in this century by the climate models developed in the 1990s and promoted at the time by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Clearly they were wrong. So I got a sort of grim satisfaction from seeing reports that SF6, an appalling chemical that seems to be able to damage the climate for thousands of years, is widely used in wind generation. This chemical is vital to keep the switch gear cool, apparently. Unlike CO2 it is not a gas that plants can make use of. Once it's in the atmosphere, and apparently leaks are endemic, it stays there.
