The Beeb under threat | ||
People are getting quite aggravated over the Tories allegedly plotting to destroy the BBC. Firstly, no Government could destroy the BBC because it is mainly its archive.
The cookery programmes and dance shows it runs today are mostly unwatchable. It hardly matters whether these survive or not. During the last election the BBC bent over backwards in its determination to get the Tories elected and it would be a nice irony if this resulted in the abolition of the licence fee. Ten years ago it would have been unthinkable to lose the BBC but today there are so many platforms for broadcasters to use, it hardly matters. I will weep over the loss of the many great radio shows, particularly those on Radio 4, but if someone developed a way to discover exactly what is going on out there in podcast land, perhaps that would not be such a disaster.
