The virus may overwhelm NHS mental health services because of the Lockdown |

My thoughts are with the teenagers who will commit suicide thanks to the 3 or 4 million who are predicted to be unemployed. They are with the generation of young people whose education has been disrupted and who will not be able to get proper careers thanks to the destruction of the economy.
My thoughts are with the families who will break up, the children who will go to bed hungry, the women who will be battered; as a result of the poverty and economic uncertainty that is coming and will last for years. I cry for the people who will lose their homes because they don't have a secure income, some of whom will be homeless or forced into prostitution. I suffer along with the 50+ year olds who will lose their jobs, or be forced onto short time working, and never get a job again. My thoughts are with the business people forced into bankruptcy who will lose their homes and might see their families break apart. My thoughts are with the wave of mentally ill people who will clog up our NHS for a generation (the depressed, the agoraphobic, the anerexic etc.) all caused by the coming slump. There was nothing we could do to stop the virus. There was plenty we could have done to stop the slump. |
