So there I was shouting at the radio that the newsreader had got his time check wrong, no doubt along with thousands of others across the country, then at the end of the bulletin the presenter smugly points out that the clocks had gone forward. Why? Thousands of people will have unnecessary accidents controlling machinery, like cars, for several days after this stupid time shift. Yet the farmers, for whom this is supposed to be essential, probably have a lie in since the technology that makes the time change unnecessary came into being about half a century ago.
