The real threat to the billionaires and corporations is... people
This cutting about how journalist Peter Oborne discovered a shock appreciation of Jeremy Corbyn, a man he has been known to despise in the past, has been doing the rounds on Facebook.

Oborne, claims he has been a lifelong Tory and is a former chief political commentator on the Daily Telegraph, but in 2019 he announced he would be voting Labour since he was unable to justify the Tory party's "lies" any longer and believes Boris Johnson is intent on 'destroying the country he loves'.

Of course, Oborne is a journalist and we journalists sometimes make a living by spouting controversial views. I happen to agree with a lot of what he says this time, but probably would not support many of his other views.

However, he certainly has a point so far as his view that the real threat to the establishment Corbyn presented was giving power back to the people by seeking finance from them rather than the billionaires.

In this context Seattle, Canada, is running quite an interesting experiment: taxing property owners to give voters a voucher they can award political candidates, who can cash them in to fund election campaigns.

Seattle voters agreed the system in 2015. Every registered voter in the city is sent four $25 vouchers that can be contributed, like cash, to qualified candidates. The money comes from a small increase in the property tax that raises about $3 million a year, or about eight bucks a year from the average homeowner.
