This is me (in the hat) videoing Jamaican Fruit Bats on Cayman Brac. The bats seem to be tiny when they are squashed together bedded down for the day, but when you see them flying they seem to have a wingspan of close to half a metre, making them considerably bigger than the pippys we commonly see in England.

Jamaican Fruit Bats are quite weird since they seem to happily fly round the cave without colliding yet I was told fruit bats do not echo locate.

Certainly, the fruit bats in Sydney (which are more like flying monkeys than Pippys) do not echo locate, since I took a bat detector to Sydney and got absolutely no readings (until I put it in a drain...)

The second picture shows my daughter Laura Brind, who captured me in the hat.
