The British man who was shot dead after taking four people hostage inside a Texas synagogue has been identified as a 44-year-old from Blackburn, Lancashire.
Malik Faisal Akram was killed by American intelligence officers on Saturday after he took four people hostage at the Congregation Beth Israel synagogue in Colleyville, Texas, 27 miles from Dallas. Akram, was the subject of an MI5 investigation in late 2020 but by the time he flew to the US he was assessed to be no longer a risk, according to a report on the BBC. Far from being harmless, as MI5 judged, he was reportedly armed with 'backpacks of explosives', and had bought a gun on the streets in America. Two teenagers were subsequently arrested in Manchester by officers from Counter Terror Policing North West as part of an attempt to shut the stable door after the horse had bolted. MI5 is far too busy making the lives of political activists and journalists a misery to take much interest in the real terrorists. BBC says MI5 investigated Akram in 2020 but decided he did not pose a risk. See Daily Mail story. |
