Incitement should be a crime
It seems to me that if climate protesters are going to be jailed for a year, then the Met Office should also face penalties for incitement by making inflamatory predictions. In August 2021 the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change predicted 0.2 degrees C of warming each decade this century. At the time it said global surface mean temperatures were 0.87 degrees hotter in 2015 (yes IPCC used 2015 figures in 2021) than the 1850-1900 average. See this link for details. This was almost exactly the temperature increase IPCC quoted in 1988. So for 30 years surface temperatures were stable yet in 2021 IPCC was predicting 0.2 degrees warming a decade. Today the Met Office says there has been one degree of warming since 1850-1900 and predicts a further 0.5 degrees warming is a 50/50 chance in one of the next five years. Of course, it is possible. But it isn't very likely. Just in case this prediction gets removed by the BBC here's the bare bones of it.
