Apple Recovery Key blocked
A couple of times, once about a year ago and again very recently, I have been locked out of a laptop computer, because my password doesn't work.

Now I know that my password is correct because I tape it to my keyboard. I never memorise it. I only use the password on the keyboard. It's a fullproof system. And I would never mention it unless it was a password I had used several times so that I was confident it was correct.

The first time it happened it was annoying but it didn't cause much of a problem because Windows has a system that lets you enter a new password if you answer some pre-arranged questions (the name of your cat, for example). But right now I'm mainly using Macs for the serious work I do and have a couple of Chromebooks for sheep dip.

Macs are beautiful and now that I have discovered Linux a whole new world has opened up via the Mac terminal. If you know, you know. If you don't you probably don't care!

But nothing is as simple with the Mac when it comes to security as it is with Windows. Well that's my experience anyway.

With Mac you have to generate a recovery code. But you have to do it before you are locked out, at least you do unless you can manage to get one from the Mac website (I can't) or have another Apple device, like an Apple phone.

So having spent hours re-formating my laptop and replacing the data, I thought I'd better get myself a recovery key. This is what happened when I tried.
