Macs have a system by which they automatically go to 'sleep' if they are unused for a period of time. The minimum is 20 minutes but you can push it up to several hours.

One drawback of this is that it stops the upload of files to iCloud. Right now I'm trying to upload a lot of stuff to iCloud because I'm trying out the system, to see if it is secure. I have used the Google alternative for years and though there are some things I like about it (you can see what's been happening to your files, in theory) in practice it seems to be very vulnerable to hacking.

I have been trying for several days to upload some files to iCloud so I have switched off 'sleep'. Nevertheless, almost every time I leave the computer when I return it has gone into sleep mode and stopped uploading.

When this happens I change my password and turn off 'sleep' again. At first I thought the hackers must be using my laptop camera to capture my password. But I put a sticking plaster over the camera and it still happened. I used plaster because I had observed when using the camera for a Zoom session, or some such thing, that even if you cover it with a label you still get a fuzzy image; possibly enough to capture a password. You can not see through plaster.

One of the frustrating things about this is that the Investigatory Powers Tribunal has actually registered my complaint, and I had some hope that I might get relief. Fat chance. Nothing stops these people.
