Well the Mac Pro Laptop I bought from Cheshire Macs a few months ago, is dead (or it is useless when it comes to using it as a laptop). I am reluctant to complain to the vendor because I was rough with it and I have discovered (too late) that it has to be handled with kid gloves. The problem I have is called stage lights, or in its later stages Flexgate. Apparently there has been a huge fuss about it and there is even a legal action taking place in the USA. I didn't know. I have owned quite a few Macs and usually they are robust. The ones I got a decade ago or more seemed to last for ever. But today the Mac has traded longevity for elegance. The Mac Pro Laptop is a fearsomely elegant beast and a very good computer. I could get it repaired for perhaps £800, but this is more than it cost (I got it second hand). So I am giving up using a Mac when on the move and doing what I never wanted to do, using a Windows laptop. It certainly is not as beautiful as the Mac Pro but it was made in China so it is cheap enough so that if it dies I won't be too bothered. In the meantime I can continue to use the Mac Pro but only if I connect it to a tv screen. The picture is not as good and the whole idea of having a laptop you can't move out of your house, is pretty absurd. |
