One of the things the hackers do to make my life a misery is delay the receipt of phone texts, often by 12 hours or so. No biggie? Perhaps.

The issue is that when I need to confirm a payment or some types of web usage (for example my online Mac identity) I am required to enter a code on my computer screen sent as a text to my phone. I can never do this. The texts never come through in time.

This is not as bad as it used to be since some organisations have got wise to this abusive behaviour and started using a variety of methods to confirm identity. For example Paypal will phone and ask for a code it has put on the screen. All you have to do is answer the call and enter the digits.

A newer form of abusive behaviour is the shutting down of my screen ( similar to a screen lock) at the moment that I am completing some activity. For example, yesterday just as I was sending a request to find a builder to do some work on my house, and had filled in a raft of details, my brand new and expensive Mac shut down, or screen locked.

It's childish and merely causes inconvenience; but that's the game, to have me chase my tail and make my life more complicated than it needs to be.

And your taxes pay for this if you live in the UK.
