How spooks used the 4Ds to harass Barrow Leisure Centre
Recently I became a member of Barrow Leisure Centre, basically so I could swim. It takes an hour to get there, costs £5 for the rail trip and they charge £25 a month. Even so I thought it was worth it.
However, being a member is not enough. The leisure centre requires me to book in advance every time I swim. For some reason (you can probably guess why if you read my posts) this has been proving impossible. The two screens I have attached show me being rejected by the leisure centre's web site. The first says it can't find my membership number which is absurd since there is a record of my having booked using that number (I didn't actually book myself, I got the staff to book for me). The second says I can only book 0 days in advance. This second rejection caused consternation at the pool today. Staff there said you can book 14 days in advance. They were very helpful, booking me in for today and for a session on Friday. But why should they have to go through all this (creating a new membership for me, issuing a new ticket)?
This is what occupies our intelligence services ( a misnomer if there ever was one, as Spike Milligan observed military intelligence is a contradiction in terms). This is how they spend your taxes. If you don't believe me perhaps you will believe Sir John Sawers, Chief of the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6), from November 2009 until November 2014.
He told Radio 4's Today Programme (2021 04 19) that they disrupt and harass anyone they feel like picking on, without using any judicial process. This is the equivalent of admitting they go on a shop lifting spree any time they fancy it, or use bricks to smash windows in houses they don't like the look of. The secret police, which is what they are really, have absolutely no legal right to indulge in extra judicial punishment. But what does "disrupt and harass" actually mean? In the archive of secret documents revealed by Snowden there is a presentation on what GCHQ calls OCA (Online Covert Action). The key phrase is the four Ds: Deny, Disrupt, Degrade, Deceive. This presentation was part of the Cyber Offensive Session pushing the boundaries and action against hacktivism. |
