A gathering of crows is known as a murder and this afternoon that name was particularly apposite in Millom. As ever there was a tremendous clatter of competing calls from the Rookery in the trees between St George's Church and the park.
The crows were unusually skitterish, darting away if I pointed my camera at them; even the ones far above me on the church roof. Yet the blood seemed to be up and even the Herring Gulls, usually totally fearless, were keeping their distance. On the ground there were at least a couple of dozen crow bodies, apparently pecked to death. I took photos but I thought they were probably too grisly to put on my blog. |
