Whicham to Whitbeck churches
Whicham to Whitbeck churches, two St Marys; then Coastal Path. The first bit was part of the Western Lakes Pilgrim Way, a 30 mile walk in nine parts with churches as staging posts.
This was a long difficult walk, though it doesn't look like it on paper. The first 5km was a nightmare, since the directions simply did not work. Came across a viper sunning itself on the path. Was also mooed at in a rather threatening way by some young frisky bullocks. Saw a pleasing number of butterflies and some birds doing weird things (swifts skimming along a few inches above the path I was on, for example). Highlight might have been a cow licking a horse in a very affectionate way. I also got electrocuted by a fence. First time that's happened in a long time. The Coastal Route (if that's what it is), the way I returned to Silecroft Station, is a remarkable piece of coastline consisting of a vast empty vista of sand and sea.
