Dumfries. The castle is Caerlaverock, which since it sounds a lot like Camelot (if you get what I mean) suggests the Scots have missed a trick by failing to cash in on the Arthurian legend.

Too English?

The butterfly on the plate of meat (or whatever it is, possibly a fungus) flew off quite rapidly. The pink stuff did not smell like rotting meat, or anything else.

Goodness knows what the butterfly was doing there.

The black mass, Criffel Hill, is on the other side of the Nith (quite a mighty river).

Dumfries is quite obsessed by Rabbie Burns and, to a lesser extent, with the Marquess of Queensberry. No not that Marquess of Queensberry.
