For some time now I have been arguing that the Israeli intelligence service should have known about the Hamas attack prior to October 7. They should have known because according to the Egyptians they told the Israelis about it a few days before it happened.

But intelligence is a curious thing and it is wrong so often (if only because paid informers like to get paid and so invent stories) that the recipients of intelligence are often very wary about it.

However, I would have thought that it would pay the intelligence community to be circumspect after such a massive intelligence failure.

Not a bit of it. The US Counterterror Director Christine Abizaid is using the Hamas Attack to justify a mass surveillance Program Renewal.

At issue is the spying tool known as 702, which is set to expire at the end of the year.
