How AI tilts the balance in favour of the independents (like me)
I am currently working on an AI project, which is about half way between a video and a radio play. I have been working on it for more than a year but it all started to come together about a fortnight ago.
It is a remarkable piece of work because in theory it might be better than anything Netflix or a Hollywood studio could produce. I am not saying it will be but it could be. This way of working requires no compromises and it is dirt cheap to do. It you can imagine it, you can do it. There are no gatekeepers. On the other hand, there are no distributors; but that's a problem to be solved further down the line. By an amazing coincidence I started watching a video called S1m0ne by a director I rather like called Andrew Niccol. Niccol, it was, who made the deeply subversive (though I am willing to bet no-one recognised it as such when it was released) Truman Show. Anyone who has not seen Truman Show is not ready to live in the modern world. S1m0ne is, of course, an AI creation. For some reason the audience do not seem to recognise this fact. I hope my audience, if I ever get one, is as generous.
