Yesterday's Guardian reports that a change in the law sneaked through by the Government, will enable the police to add driving licence pictures to the database used for facial recognition. In 2012 the courts have rejected police use of pictures of people who have never committed a crime. but the police use them anyway.

The latest issue of Private Eye has an article aboout the wholesale use of facial recognition by the police in Dubai, host of the latest COP jamboree.

The Eye says that pohotographs of people entering Dubai (including iris data for those who opt for the fast lane at the airport, enable the authorities to monitor everyone coming into Dubai via 300,000 cameras.

The Eye also catalogues a long list of people who have come into conflict with the legal system because they have dared to express thoughts that the powers that be find offensive.
