By George I think he's got it!
Well as I predicted Gorgeous George Galloway won the Rochdale by-election. What I did not predict was the humiliation of the former Labour candidate Azhar Ali. I thought he would do rather well having shed the poisonous (in Rochdale anyway) Labour brand.
Does this mean we will have Workers Party MPs in all the traditionally Labour and now downtrodden seats that have a 30% or so electorate identifying as Muslim. I doubt it. Galloway is a one off. But what is increasingly likely is that we will have Green Party MPs in perhaps dozens of seats, because the Greens are as fervently opposed as Galloway to the genocide currently going on in Gaza and they can add a sizeable chunk of the electorate who are passionately opposed to environmental destruction but would not previously have voted Green because they didn't have a chance. The Greens do have a chance now. Will this stop Starmer winning the next election? Probably not. The Tories are so absolutely determined to self destruct that almost nothing could save them. However, give Starmer time. He has already destroyed the membership base of the Labour Party, radically cut its income and turned it into a policy lite excuse for a party. He may do worse.
