Do spooks undermine our security?
SOURCES Today we learn that the Russians intercepted a high level German military meeting in which officers discussed the deployment of British troops in Ukraine.

The actual story is not much of a surprise since it was obvious given the sophistication of some of the equipment provided to Ukraine that it would be impossible to train local troops to use it without experienced supervision. Hence the Brit boots on the ground.

What is a surprise is that the Russians were able to hack into the Webex platform with such apparent ease. Webex is now being described as a leaky everyday platform, but the company itself says it offers security and privacy.

Is it a coincidence that in Britain (at least) we seem to be seeing a restoration of the original university based online network?

Safepod is a system for transmitting and receiving data securely from 25 nodes, at universities and other secure data holders. The idea is to allow data to be shared without the need to travel.

Prior to the militarisation of the internet the universities had a system called Arpanet. Are we seeing a come back of this because the internet is now so leaky it is impossible to use for any sensitive information?

And if it is leaky, why is it so? Does it have anything to do with the fact that the spooks constantly demand access to your private correspondence and always want back doors?
