Journalist Pouria Zeraati, who has a high profile role on a tv channel called Iran International, was stabbed outside his London flat. The incident was clearly a warning since only Zerati's leg was injured.
Iran International is a Persian-language opposition TV channel that operates from Britain. The perpetrators were three men who flew into and then out of Heathrow a few hours later. Iran International voices news and comment sympathetic to the Iran opposition. In December MI5 was slapping itself on the back over the arrest of Magomed-Husejn Dovtaev, a man who had flown into London a few hours before he was arrested outside an Iranian opposition media company. A statement from the Metropolitan Police made it clear that the arrest was the result of the work of security guards and had nothing to do with MI5. In February a publication called The Record made the somewhat surprising claim that Iran International had moved to the United States because it was too dangerous in London. A version of the article about Zerati appears in the New York Times of April 18, 2024. See also https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/17/world/europe/uk-london-iranian-journalists-repression.html | ||
