Clean machines and a dirty stream | ||
La'al Ratty takes you to Dalegarth Station (nearest town Boot) from where you can walk to Dalegarth Falls. It's a challenging walk if only because the signs along the route do not suggest you are actually getting anywhere.
It always seems to be half a mile away. And sometimes the signs tell you to go in both directions! The walk is steep and occasionally precipitous and when you only have a two hour time slot (I had to get the La'al Ratty back at 14:10) a bit frightening. 6.html As you can see the mountain stream is, er, clean as a mountain sewer with a football sized detergent bubble ball. God knows where the pollution comes comes from. La'al Ratty trains are spotless and clearly shined with a tin of Brasso each day. Somebody there certainly likes a clean machine. The seven mile narrow gauge rail trip is not cheap but it's not expensive either. And it is a lot more reliable than the nearby Northern Rail. |
