Fear fatigue | ||
People who rely on the BBC or newspapers to get a picture of the world we live in, do not need to bother with this post since they won't have had access to enough information to understand it.
For the last year or two, many of us have been becoming increasingly despondent about the state of the world. As one horrific event recedes into the background, another yet more terrifying heaves into view. This results is what I would call fear fatigue. We have been living on the edge of our metaphorical seats for too long. Our flight or fight response has been set to permanent danger. For those who say this would never have happened if I had relied on the BBC, I would like to draw their attention to the Yemen. The prime minister there, much of the political and some of the military leadership have been killed by the Israelis and the country is now at war with Israel and by extension America, who supplied the munitions that allowed Israel to do this. Yemen is quite capable of shutting the straits of Hormuz through which much world trade passes. It has missiles that can penetrate Israel's Iron Dome. It has a large battle hardened military. Only a maniac or a fanatic would engineer a crisis like this. Unfortunately we are dealing with maniacs and fanatics. |
