Kennedys
On Sunday September 1st my landlady in Leytonstone Joan Kennedy collapsed and, died just after preparing and serving the usual Sunday dinner. She was 80, a bit absent-minded and dithery and never feeling very well, but still doing a magnificent job looking after her husband Michael, the house and 3 cats. She had many flashes of wit and shrewdness and comic genius and dressed marvellously. I've lived in the house for 2 happy years and am very grateful to her and Michael. Their son Doug, an old friend of mine, got leave from his job as an arts and entertainment journalist in Brisbane and came straight over....Chris Hill
Clare went to see your parents today, Douglas, and they gave the kids Easter Eggs. Mr Kennedy has now almost given up booze, Clare says. They have used the money they obtained by selling off the land for a house to be built at the bottom of the garden to brighten things up.Letter to Doug
Doug, back from Aus to see see his parents. Also Michael and Joan (the said parents) with Chris Hill (old friend and subsequently lodger, in the Kennedy home at Forest Drive West, Leytonstone). Doug's wife Joan is also pictured, though I think this photograph was taken a lot earlier, since she did not visit with Doug on that occasion.<1991
