Fish
Although the Lea is so badly polluted almost nothing can live in it between Tottenham Lock and the Princess of Wales , it doesn't have to be this way. This 40cm plus length fish, possibly a carp, was one of about a dozen seen cavorting in very shallow water just upstream of Tottenham Lock. It's cleaner here because it is upstream of the foul water discharged by Deephams. Not many years ago there used to be anglers on the banks at Lea Marshes and a pompous official travelled up and down the tow path trying to catch out anyone who had failed to buy a permit. Not any more.
