Caroline Day: URGENT message to dog walkers: two foxes were found dead near the Beechholme estate north of Millfields Park, the autopsy showed that they had been poisoned. Please bear this in mind while walking your dogs in this area. (Facebook 20/Sept/2012) Claire Weiss: On Tuesday early afternoon I saw a dead cat on the grass in north Millfields Park near to the eastbound bus stop in Lea Bridge Road. The poor thing was too far away from the road to have been the result of a traffic accident. No idea whether there is any link between this and the incident reported by Caroline, but thought it worth mentioning. The cat was a very dark mottled colour. Please see the following response from Bruce Irving at the Parks Dept. If you see anything suspicious please do let Parks staff know or let me know and I will let them know. Hopefully there is nothing sinister going on! Regards, Emma Jack ----- Forwarded Message ----- From: Bruce Irving RE: poisoning of foxes Dear All, I have spoken with the RSPCA who advise that as there is currently no evidence that foxes are being deliberately poisoned they will not carry out an investigation. They suggested that it was more likely an accidental death caused by something poisonous which the foxes had eaten as opposed to a deliberate poisoning. They have asked us to monitor the situation and if more instances occur to contact them again with further details. In the interim I have asked the Park Manger to brief staff in Millfields and to report any fox mortalities or instances of bait to him.
