| HACKNEY CANAL PARK PROJECT | ||||||||||||

A multi-disciplinary team that includes landscape architects, urban designers, ecologists and access consultants has been appointed by the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) to create a park along a stretch of canal that runs adjacent to the Olympic Park, called the Hackney Cut.
Apart from enhancing part of the London-wide canal network, an overriding aim of the park is that it should provide inclusive, accessible, comfortable and beautiful parkland around the canal where people can walk, cycle, picnic, rest or play. The park will also provide a connection between the Olympic Park existing communities and new residential and employment accommodation adjacent to the canal. It is envisaged that there will be significant footfall through the park in the long run. The existing towpath will be a shared space with pedestrians, cyclists, boating communities, anglers and waterside commercial use, all actively using the route. There is a phase one of the project to deliver over the next 12-18 months which is to be determined through both local aspiration and planning requirement for the delivery of open space, biodiversity and play.
