223. THOMAS BRIND was indicted for stealing, on the 13th of November, 2 ozs. of silver turnings, value 10s. , the goods of John Bridge and others, his masters.

MR. CLARKSON conducted the prosecution.

CATO SHARP . I superintend the manufactory of Mr. John Bridge and others, at my house in Dean-street, Soho; their firm is Rundle and Bridge; the prisoner worked at my house, and had two guineas a week; I had him apprehended in consequence of some information, at the house of Mr. Sirrell, a refiner and dealer in bullion, on the 13th of November - I found him there, and asked what he did there, as his work was so much wanted - he said, "I came here on a little business of my own;" I said, "You can have no business here;" Mr. Sirrell's young man pointed to some silver turnings in a paper, and said he came to sell this; I took the paper and held it up, and said, "You know, Brind, this is not your property - you know you have taken it from Dean-street;" he said, "Yes, I have;" he had been turning silver in the warehouse that morning; he has been in our employ about two years - he is married, and had a good character - here is 2 ozs. of silver, worth 10s. - it cannot be sworn to.

LAWRENCE CHILD . I am shopman to Mr. Sirrell. The prisoner brought the silver turnings to our shop on the 13th of November; I told him to call in an hour, and went to Mr. Sharp; I have heard what he has stated, it is correct

.JOHN BARNES . I am an officer. I took the prisoner.

GUILTY. Aged 33.

Recommended to Mercy by the Prosecutor .
