"TERRITORIAL WAR MEDAL For voluntary service overseas 1914-19, territorial war medal", which is inscribed "1823 Priv L C Brind 8 London R". Grandfather was evidently not conscripted. He may have been in the territorials before the war or perhaps he joined knowing he was likely to be sent to fight in the trenches.
