This indenture made the twenty second day of July of the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty three BETWEEN Thomas Peart of Swindon in the County of Wilts labourer and Thomas Peart his son of the first part Thomas Brind of Highworth in the said County Blacksmith of the second part and James Bradford (Receiver of the Rents and Revenues of the lands given by the will of Sarah late Duchess Dowager of Somerset deceased for apprenticing poor male children commonly called Broad Town Charity,) of the third part WITNESSETH That he the said Thomas Peart the son by and with the consent and approbation of his said father hath put, placed and bound himself and by these Presents doth put, place and bind himself to the said Thomas Brind to learn his Craft or occupation to serve him after the manner of an Apprentice, from the day of the date hereof, and for and during and unto the full end and term of Seven Years during which time the said Apprentice shall and will truly and faithfully serve his Master; his business and commands he shall every where gladly do, and his secrets faithfully keep; he shall do no damage to his said Master, or to his knowledge or power suffer any to be done by others, he shall not haunt ale-houses, or play at cards, dice, or any other unlawful game; nor from the service of his said Master by day or night absent himself but shall in all things well and truly serve his said Master as a faithful apprentice ought to do, during the said term; AND THE SAID Thomas Brind in consideration thereof, and also for and in consideration of the sum of Fifteen Pounds of good and lawful money of Great Britain, to him in hand well and truly paid by the said James Bradford, at the time of sealing, and delivering by these Presents, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged (being part of the said Charity Money) does Covenant, promise, and agree to and with the said James Bradford an his successors, the Receivers of the Rents and Revenues of the said Charity for the time being, in manner following (that is to say) that the said Thomas Brind shall and will take the said Thomas Peart the son as his Apprentice for and during the term of Seven Years, and that during the said term he will teach and instruct, or cause the said Apprentice to be taught and instructed in his said Craft, Art of Mystery of a Blacksmith in the best manner he can: AND ALSO shall and will at all times during the said term, find and provide for the said Apprentice, competent and sufficient meat, drink, lodging one pair of shoes yearly and his aprons & all other necessaries of every sort and kind the said Thomas Peart the father, hereby agrees with the said Thomas Brind to find and provide for his said son during the said term.
AND FURTHER that the said Thomas Brind his Executors or Administrators, shall not or will, during the said term, assign the said Apprentice to, or permit or suffer him to serve any other person or persons whatsoever for all or any part of the said term; or discharge him from his said Apprenticeship, without licence and consent of the Receiver of the said Rents and Revenues for the time being, or of the Trustees (named and appointed for putting the said Charity in execution) for the time being, or the major part of them, in writing under his or their hand or hands, first had and obtained for that purpose. IN WITNESS whereof, the said Parties to these Presents have hereunto interchangeably set their hands and seals the days and year first above written.
