The Cadet papers are under reference IOR/L/MIL/9/107 to 218 at the O.I.O.Collection at the British Library in London and cover the period c.1789 - 1848. This index only covers the period 1789 to 1823 . When you look-up a name you will find the OIOC ref number and LDS Family History Centre film number, you can then go to your nearest LDS Family History Centre and order this film for viewing in that centre. This is much more convienient than going all the way to London from say Alberta.

Dear Susan, The note which accompanies your ancestor's entry in Hart's Army List 1873, is as follows:-

Captain Brind served as Midshipman in the Navy throughout the Persian campaign of 1856-57, and was present at the landing under heavy fire in Hallulah Bay, taking of the Bushire Forts, bombardment, storm and capture of Bushire (wounded), battle of Kooshab, and bombardment of Mohumrah (Medal with Clasp). Was also actively engaged in several boat engagements in the Canton river and North Coast of China in 1857. Served with the 1st Bengal European Fusiliers in the Indian mutiny campaign in 1857-59, and was present in the actions of Barree, Nawabgunge, and Kentour, engagement with a capture of five guns from the Nusseerabad Brigade, and several other actions in Oude (medal). Served with the 11th Punjab Infantry in the China war of 1860 at the defence of Canton; and in 1861 was engaged in the defence of Shanghai and Woosung against the Taiping rebels.
