Was also actively engaged in several boat engagements in the Canton river and North Coast of China in 1857. Served with the 1st Bengal European Fusiliers in the Indian mutiny campaign in 1857-59, and was present in the actions of Barree, Nawabgunge, and Kentour, engagement with a capture of five guns from the Nusseerabad Brigade, and several other actions in Oude (medal). Served with the 11th Punjab Infantry in the China war of 1860 at the defence of Canton; and in 1861 was engaged in the defence of Shanghai and Woosung against the Taiping rebels. Busy man!
