After the contest. "What a newlywed husband should eat." To top the afternoon a dainty lunch was served. Best wishes are extended to Hazel and Bill for their future happiness.

A quiet wedding took place at the United Church Manse, Paradise Valley, Thursday November the 24th when Hazel Dorris McDonald, daughter of Mr and Mrs MacDonald of Paradise Valley was united in marriage to William Frederick Brind of McDonaldville. The Rev A T Bell officiating. The witnesses were MrsA McDonald and Herbert C Brind. On Friday evenings at the Uneeda school the many friends of the young people gathered for the wedding dance and to wish this popular young couple and best of good wishes.

Brind-McDonald A very pretty wedding was solemnized at the Manse, Paradise Valley, on November 24th at 2.30p.m. when Hazel Doris McDonald, daughter of Mr and Mrs Adam McDonald, of Paradise Valley, became the bride of William Frederick Brind of McDonaldville. The bride, who was given in marriage by her brother, Mr Albert McDonald, looked charming, dressed in a blue velvet gown with orange blossoms and blue accessories to match. She was attended by her sister in law Mrs Albert McDonald, who was attired in a dress of rust crepe with accessories. The groom was attended by his brother, Mr Herbert Brind, and the ceremony was performed by Rev A T Bell, pastor of the United Church. Following the ceremony a reception was held at the home of the bride's parents, when the guests were received by Mrs McDonald, mother of the bride, who wore a dress of grey figured silk, and Mrs Brind, mother of the groom, who was suitably attired in a gown of green crepe. During the reception a sumptuous bufet lunch was served, the table being centred by a lovely three tier cake made and decorated by the bride's mother. Relatives and friends joined in wishing the couple every happiness and all good wishes.

Mrs Hazel Doris Hughson Rev R W Bray officiated Friday at the funeral service in Henderson's Funderal Chapel for Mrs Hazel Doris Hughson of 9999 Quarry Rd, Chilliwack. Mrs Hughson died Jan 3 in Chilliwack General Hospital. Pallbearers were Floyd Ingram, Victor Ingram, Tom Brind, Bert Brind, Henry Newman and Wes McKenzie. Interment was in the IOOF Cemetery. Mrs Hughson, a resident of this district since 1947, was born in Saskatchewan on Sept 1, 1919. She is survived by her husband Howard; a daughter Mrs T (Doreen) Hatzl of Chilliwack; a grandaughter; three brothers, Albert McDonald of Ardmore, Alta.' Thomas Rayson, Paradise Valley, Alta, and George Kesteven of Calgary. She was predeceased by her first husband, William Brind, in 1941.

Holding-Hatzl exchange vows Tony William Holding and Jacqueline Gail Hatzl were married Sept 7 at St Mary's Romanch Catholic Church. Father Gary Gordon officiated at the doulbe ring mass ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Bob and Doreen Denham and the groom is the son of John and Mary Holding, all of Chilliwack. The bride wore a full elngth, southern belle gown of layers of lace ruffles draped with roses. The fitted bodice featured a Victorian neckline and the yoke was acented by Venice lace and trimmed with sequins and pearls. The skirt was finished with a chapel length train. Shelly Head was maid of honor. Cherly Parent was bridesmaid, and Fawnda Denham, the bride's niece, was junior bridesmaid. Monice Holding, sister of the groom, was flower girl. Rick Parent was best man. Carey Holding, brother of the groom, was groomsman. Junior groomasman was Jason Denham, brother of the bride. Tyler Brade, the groom's cousin, was ringbearer. Ushers were Jim Ballam Jr, Jim Raffle, Bruce Holding and Derrick Holding. The cou;ple were given a blessing by the archbishop, in person. Gord Denham, brother of the bride, was master of ceremonies at the reception held at the Royal Canadian Legion hall. Jim Ballam Jr proposed the toast to the bridesmaids. Tom and Debbie Kalau were guest book attendants. Out of province guests included Max, Kay and Tracy Hughson, Line and Shane Johnstone, all of Edmonton, Alta.; Denis Hoffman, Matt and Betty Silbernagel, Joe and Julie Silbernagel, all of Calgary, Alta; Alphonse Regnier of Red Deer, Alta., and Margarite Gow of Cochrane, Alta. Following a wedding trip to Vancouver Island, the couple will make their home in Chilliwack.

Carman United Church Mr, Mrs A F McFee to reside in Halifax Following a honeymoon through the interior of British Columbia, Mr and Mrs Allen Finlay McFee will reside in Halifax, NS. Rev Franck Patterson officiated in Carman United Church, Sardis, at the early evening wedding of Norma Leila Brind,elder daught of Mr and Mrs Herrbert C Brind, Ryder Lake, and the son of Mr and Mrs D D McFee, Chilliwack. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a gown of nylon lace over delustered satin. The bouffant skirt fell into a train. A tiara or net and pearls held the veil which was banded with lace. Pink roses and stephanotis comprised the bridal bouquet. Wearing dresses fashioned of pink organza the attendants were the bride's sister, Sandra Brind, who was maid of honor, and Pat Kindred. They wore headpieces of pink net and carried white fans with pink ribbon roses. Mrs David Menzies was organist. The soloist, Mrs Lenny Hudson, sang "Wedding Prayer"and "I'll Walk Beside You". William Dayton was best man and ushers were Lindsay McPhee and Donald Thomson. Baskets of pink peonies, white shasta daisies and blue delphiniums were arranged in thechurch and in Ryder Lake Community Hall were the receptionw as held. The hall decorations were by Mrs D Bailey. S/Sgt Tom DeGagne proposed the toast to the bride. Mrs Dale Kindred decorated the wedding cake. White carnations, pink roses and snapdragons amde up the centerpiece for the bride's table and were arranged by Mrs John Maddams. Heather Gamble looked after the gues book. Serving the head table was Lynne Hudson. Serving guests were Sandy Kerr, Marylin Walterhouse, Bessie Wincott, Helen Murdoch, Kathy Shatz, Marie Larsen, Dagmar Larsen, Marion and Adrience Beynon, Melva Braun and Peggy Gamble. For the honeymoon the bride wore and outfit of bronze rayon damask with brown accessories. Mr and Mrs McFee will reside at 5 Needham Street, Halifax, NS. Music for dancing was supplied by Mrs Hazel Voight, A W Voight, J Maddams, J Kerr, J Erickson and Mrs H Foster. John McConnell was master of ceremonies. Among the out of town guests were Mr and Mrs C W Hedges, Beaverdale, Sask. Mr Hedges was best man at the wedding of the bride's parents.

Walterhouse-Vriezen Sylvia Vriezen and Kevin Walterhouse were married Sept 14 in the First Christian Reformed Church of Abbotsford. The bride if the daughter of Mr and Mrs Adolf Vriezen of Matsqui and the groom is the son of Mr and Mrs Gordon Walterhouse of Chilliwack. Rev Martin Contant officiated at the ceremony. Given in marriage by her parents, the bride wore a gown with Victorian neckline. The bodice was accented with Chantilly lace appliqued with seed pearls and the chiffon skirt was flounced with deep Chantilly lace. Matron of honor was Martha Chandra and bridesmaid was Esther Dykshoon. Flower girl was Sharlene Chandra and candlelighter was Jenise Chandra. The groom was attended by Robb Walterhouse as best man and groomsman John DeWaldee. Ushers were Theo Vriezen and Mark Edwards. Dennis Arlt was master of cermonies for the reception at the Royal Canadian Legio. Jay Chandra proposed the toast and Pat Koehn said the prayer. Guest book attendants were Melissa Vriezen and Jenise Chandra. The couple will live in Matsqui.

Edwards-Short married Shelly Rae Short and Mark David Edwards were married July 12 in a double ring ceremony at St Thomas ??? Church with Rev Colin ??? officiating. The bride, daughter of Verne and Lila Short of Chilliwack, was given in marriage by her father. The groom is the son of John and ?? Edwards of Chilliwack. For her wedding the bride chose a ??? featuring sprays of silk flowers ??? the off the shoulder ruffles. Mermaid sheath gorn had a long ?? train and bow. For 'something old' the bride wore a later maternal grandmother's (Bessie MacKenzie) engagement ring. The bride was attended by her maid of honor Julia Prince and her bridesmaids were her twin sister Sherry Short and the groom's sister Mandy Edwards. The groom was attended by her best man Carl Bier and bygroomsmen John Dewalde and Pat Koehn. The ushers were Eric Haan and Jim Bohac, the bride's brother in law. During the reception, the bride's brother inlaw Tony De Groot was master of ceremonies. Pat Keeble said grace, Kevin Walterhouse offered the toast to the bride and Carl Bier offered the toast to the bridesmaids. The wedding cake was made by the bride's mother and decorated by the groom's sister. Outof province guests included Pat Keeble of Clacton-on-Sea, England; and Mike and Leona Edwards of Red Deer, Alta. Rhonda Forrest was guestbook attendant, Joan Bohac and Teresa DeGroot, sisters of the bride, read verses from the Bible during the wedding ceremony. After a wedding trip to Acapulco, Mexico, the couple will make their home in Vancouver.

Kellington-Hoflin Bride Preceded by six attendants at rites Carman United church Sardis, was the scene, when Rev Elmer Toffelmire officiated at the marriage of Patricia Mae Hoflin and Wayne John Kellington. The bride is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Floyd Ingram, Ryder Lake, and the groom is the eldest son and Mr and Mrs John Kellington, Chilliwack. Mrs David Menzies was organist. Jerry Kellington, the groom's brother, was best man and ushers were Victor Schmidt and Wayne Turhune. The bride, given in marriage by her stepfather, wore a full length gown of Chantilly lace and layers of net over heavy satin. The bouffant skirt featured a deep V of lace. The form fitted bodice, sabrina neckline and lily point sleeves were fashioned with lace. The finger tip illusion veil in the shape of tulip petals was held by a Swedish crown. She carried a buoquet of deep red roses and stephanotis. Wearing full skirted gowns both styled in white lace over lilac taffeta, Diana Hoflin was her sister's maid of honor and Irene Monson and Loyola Turhune were bridesmaids. The little flower girls were Marwayne Ingram and Debra Hill. They wore headpieces of lilac organza and carried bouquets of pink and white carnations. The ringbearer was Brina Brind. Frank Willard proposed the toast to the bride at the reception in the Atchelitz hall, which was decorated with tulpis and Easter lilies. The bride's grandmother, Mrs Fred Brind, and the groom's grandparents, Mr and Mrs Joseph Sokoloski of Calgary, assisted the parents of the principals and the bridal party in the receiving line. Serviteurs included Miss Helen McKinlay, Victor Ingram, Mr and Mrs Wes MacKenzie, Mr and Mrs Gordon Waterhouse, Mr and Mrs Jack Hoflin, Mr and Mrs Vern Short and Miss Lana Turhune. For the honeymoon to the United States the bride changed to a blue suit and and white accessories. Mr and Mrs Kellington will reside at 7748 Vedder road.

INGRAM Doris Mary Doris Mary Ingram passed away suddenly on Jan31, 1997, in her home at #135 - 46511 Chilliwack Lake Road, Sardis. Born in Kelowna Aug 27, 1922, the fourth child of Fred and Lillian Brind. As a child, the family moved to theParadise Valley of Alberta. She married John Hoflin in 1938. John was a casualty of World War II leaving her with three very small children. Later she met and married Floyd Ingram and her family grew to seven. The first years of this marriage were spent in Tullaby Lake and Marwayne, Alberta. Approximately 45 years ago, Doris, Floyd and family moved to the Chilliwack area. They spent many years at Ryder Lake and then on to Bellevue Avenue in Chilliwack, before moving to 46511 Chilliwack Lake Road. Doris spent many years involved in coaching girls in Chilliwack Minor Softball. She was an avid fan of both ball and hockey. And the last few years a regular at the Foresters and Legion Bingo games. Doris leaves to mourn her seven children; Diane (Vic) Schmidt of Kamloops, Pat (Wayne) Kellington of Calahoo, Alberta; Jack (Debbie) Hoflin of Fort Fraser; Vern (Barb) Ingram of Port Alberni; Victor Ingram of Williams Lake; Marwayne (Winston) Norton of High Level, Alberta; Maureen Binelle (Don Russell) of Chilliwack and foster daughter Diana Ward of Surrey. Brothers Bert (Mary Brind) of Chilliwack; Tom (Joyce) Brind of Enderby and sister in law Barb Brind of Tullaby Lake, Alberta. Special friend Earl Ingram. Also 34 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren, plus numerous nieces, nephews and their families and many friends. Predeceased by husband John Hoflin, husband Floyd Ingram, grandsons David Schmidt, Dwayne Ingram, Cyrus Point and great grandson Richard Hoflin. Donations may be made to the Chilliwack Branch #4 Legion in memory of Doris. Pallbearers (grandsons) Richard Hoflin, Thomas Ingram, Brandon Ingram, Billy Norton, Ryan Norton and Joey Wright. Services at Henderson's Funeral chapel on Wednesday Feb 5, 1997 at 1.30pm officiated by Major Angus Haggarty. Internment to follow at the Legion Cemetery. Sadly missed and always remembered.

Vink-Short exchange vows Sherry Ann Short and Gysbert Ronny 'Ron'Vink were married Nov 21 in a candlelight, double ring ceremony at First Christian Reformed Church with Rev H Numan officiating. The bride is the daughter of Verne and Lila Short of Chilliwack. The groom is the son of Walter and Gerry Vink of Sardis. The bride was escorted down the aisle by her father and wore a gown of Chantilly lace with a fitted bodice accented with seed pearls and sequins. It featured a sweetheart neckline and tapered sleeves withlily point cuffs. The tiered, lace skirt formed a chapel length train. The matron of honor was the bride's twin sister Shelly Edwards. The bride's sister Joan Bohac and friend Linda Peter served as bridesmatrons. Candlelighters were Arlene Kornelius and the groom's sister Shirley Vink. Flowergirl was the groom's sister Sheila Vink. Best man for the occasion was Bill Driesen. The groom's brother Ken Vink and his brother in law Wim Shakel were groomsmen. Ushers were Harvey Haan and the bride's brother in law Mark Edwards. During the reception, the bride's brother in law Tony DeGroot was master of ceremonies. The bride's uncle Jim Short offered the toast to the bride, Bill Driesen offered the toast to the bridesmaids and the bride's brother in law Jim Bohac welcomed the groom to the family. Guestbook attendants were the bride's sister Teresa DeGroot and the groom's sister Sylvia Schakel. After a wedding trip to California and Mexico, the couple will live in Greendale.

Address mixup hassle Confusion over northwest, southwest designations By BROOKES MERRITT, SUN MEDIA Rod Brind holds a notice to comply from the city that was sent to his 1119 116 St. SW home instead of its intended target, at the same address in the northwest. (DARRYL DYCK, SUN) A quirk in the way Edmonton's streets were planned has resulted in scores of homes having nearly identical addresses as other houses in other corners of the city. The glitch affects about 200 households. The only difference between matching addresses is a northwest or southwest designation. DUPLICATE ADDRESSES The confusion is causing hassles for new residents and for Canada Post, which has responded by providing carriers with a list of duplicate addresses in order to reduce the number of people getting each other's mail. City planner Gord Willis said much of the confusion stems from people - and postal workers - assuming the city's north-south boundary is defined by the North Saskatchewan River. "It's not. In 1982 the city was laid out to be almost entirely in a northwest quadrant, with the axis in the southeast corner at Meridian Street where it crosses Anthony Henday Drive." The alternative - making the axis point in the city centre like Calgary did - was passed over in favour of saving thousands of people from having to change their addresses. Regardless of the reasoning, the result has long left anyone looking at a map of Edmonton scratching their head: Ellerslie Road and 34 Avenue is in the southeast corner of the city, but it's deemed a SW intersection. Anthony Henday serves as a rough marker for north-south designations south of the river, said Willis, adding "today 90% of Edmonton addresses end with NW." Rutherford-area resident Rod Brind says he often misses mail at his 1119 116 St. SW home. Once, he received a fine from the city for failing to clear snow off his sidewalk. "I don't even have a sidewalk," he said. "The envelope came to me but the notice inside was addressed to 1119 116 St. NW in Twin Brooks, about two kilometres north of me." Residents at 1119 116 St. NW could not be reached. The problem, according to Canada Post spokesman Teresa Williams, is that compass points are rarely used by non-commercial mailers and postal workers have been slow on the uptake. USE POSTAL CODE She encouraged people to help them out by using the NW and SW designations. "And be sure to use your postal code," she said. "It goes a very long way in pinpointing the area carriers walk." People unsure of the compass points of their street can look up their formal address on the Canada Post website.
