CATMORE, a parish in the hundred of Compton, in the county of Berks, three miles to the west of East Riley. Wantage is its post town. It is situated in a pleasant country, and includes, the tything of Lilley. Catmore was anciently a market town under a grant by Edward I. The living is a rectory in the diocese of Oxford, value £200, in the patronage of C. Eyre, Esq. The church is dedicated to St. Margaret. |
