In fact it was a mission of mercy carried out by a Waltham Forest animal warden. A duckling had been abandoned by its parents because it seemed to have something wrong with its right leg. Despite its invalidity the young creature made valiant attempts to escape the net of the warden. It swam to the bottom of the pond.
