Giant Hogweed after LVRPA has put some weed killer on it.These pictures were taken on the Sustrans close to the waterworks. The plant looks rather like a sick Triffid, but it's dangerous so don't touch, if you see it. There seemed to be quite a lot in 2012. Click this link to see what it looks like when it's healthy.

LVRPA uses glyphosate to control Giant Hogweed. It is possible to control it by digging but it means wearing protective clothing. Machinery (ploughing) can be used but since it is heavily concentrated on the banks of the Lea, this is regarded as impractical.
