This is the Lea Marsh north of Lea Bridge Road as seen by Google Earth. For some while there has been a riding stable that has appropriated about 20% of the area between the reservoirs and the Lea Bridge Road. This is completely contrary to the original aims of the regional park authority. It is also a ludicrous waste of public resources. The riding centre is heavily subsidised. There is no similar facility in the London area for the good reason that no commercial company could operate at the prices charged by LVRPA. Although it is quite obvious that the current privatising of the space is untenable (why should the local authorities pay for it?) LVRPA is continuing to propose added priority for the horses! |
