| My grandfather Albert Edward Brind does not appear in that extended family (in this package) but a Walter Brind does, and my mum doesn't remember Walter!
I've attached a copy of my grandfather's wedding certificate and parent's wedding photo and also one from (great aunt) Ethel's wedding which has most of the family in it. 
Is there any way of finding out how Albert Edward doesn't appear but Walter does? Simon Brind |

| In the 1911 census the most likely George Brind in Bethnal Green was born in 1879/80. But there are at least two others, one in Wales the other in Berkshire.

I talked to her about 20 years ago. At the time I think she was talking to her mother (the daughter of Ted and Ivy) and got some of the information from her. Sandra is still about, or was quite recently. She is involved with a campaign about the wartime Bethnal Green tube disaster. You can see the campaign has a web site called something like Stairway to Heaven. There are no positive details for Walter in that tree (he is not linked on his, birth, marriage or death details) so that suggests a problem. It is also possible that Sandra gave me the details correctly and I made a mistake putting them onto the system. Equally perhaps Sandra's mother was thinking of a maternal relative and accidentally put him into the paternal side... I'd guess that Sandra went to some effort to try to trace her family tree back a bit further than George and drew a blank. I think it is quite difficult to do it because there are quite a few George Brinds and if your ancestor got married to Ms Tree/Fordham (Sorry to cast doubt on this marriage but I reckon Sandra would have found it if it had existed. ) then it was probably before 1911, a critical date in family history. Subsequent to that date the woman's maiden name is listed in the free index. Before that date it isn't. Anyway in the last few days there has been a break through. Since the 1911 census has just been published I can look at all the George Brinds living in Bethnal Green (assuming that was where your ancestor lived). This reveals (if it is correct) that George was 31 years old in 1911. There were at least three George Brinds born in 1879, one in Wales another in Berkshire, and a third in Bethnal Green. I think your first port of call should be to talk to Sandra. She's quite a close relative and may have done a lot more family history work than she told me about. She may also be interested in the 1911 census, since it wasn't available when she was doing her research and she may not know that it has come out. If you want to get some documents I suggest you get Albert Edward's birth certificate, the certificate for George Brind born in Bethnal Green in 1879, and the census entry for Albert in Bethnal Green in 1911. It's ages since I bought any certificates so I am sending a copy of this email to Carl Brind who may be able to help you more there. Carl has also recently bought entries in the 1911 census. My guess is that these three items will cost you a total of less than £20. If you are lucky, which considering the fact that Sandra probably did this already is less than certain, I may be able to take your family history back quite a long way. Good hunting.
