HERBERT EDMUND who seems to prefer being called Herbert Edward (Herbert Edmund appears on the Register of Births), joined the Royal Army Medical Corps aged 17 years 10 months on the 7th April 1903. Part of his Service Record seems to be missing as there is no discharge date. (source:unknown). His subsequent award of the War Badge (presumably a medal) on 5/Nov/1919 states he was enlisted on November 30, 1906. Although he left the army because of sickness, he seems to have served throughout the entire First World War because his discharge date was 27/May/1919). His regimental number was 1012 and he was a member of the Royal Army Medical Corp for at least some of the war, so it seems remarkable he survived. He seems to have disembarked (for France?) on 23/Aug/1914 and was awarded a clasp 48641 (whatever that means) for his work involving a field ambulance. The War Office record was IV 2083/6 27.6.22, the latter date being three years and one month after he was discharged. see document.
